Meizana is a brand-spanking new music duo comprised of two solo female vocalists who have joined forces to launch a never before seen South African musical offering. Their name is a combination of the Afrikaans word “meisie” and the Zulu word “intombazana” which both mean "girl". These were fused to ultimately create Meizana. The "meisie" and "intombazana" involved are Phathiswa and Bianca Wood.
After previously taking on the music industry as solo artists, each having performed with music heavy weights the likes of SA diva, Gloria Bosman and South Africa's pop-rock stars, The Parlotones, the two songstresses decided to shake things up and join forces. Both Meizana members originated from small towns in Gauteng: Bianca hailing from Hammanskraal in the north and Phathiswa, from the eastern town of Springs. In 2019 their paths ultimately lead them to Johannesburg and most importantly, to each other. Meizana was born.
Together they offer a contemporary mix of various iconically South African sounds combined with infectious themes of popular music. Meizana infuses elements from genres like soul, pop, South African house and sprinkles of hip-hop to stir up their fresh sound.
In the short span of their career they have already had a sold-out show in one of the trendiest spots of Johannesburg and are sure to sell out many more.
